Much of leadership development is built around mentoring models or master teacher-pupil systems. One value lacking in leadership development is the role of Community in leadership formation development. It is significant to me that in the New Testament spiritual leadership is not divorced from something Jesus calls “Church”. Leaders are a part of the body.

Second, it is also instructive that there is a call to live-out the thirty-one “one anothers” in the New Testament. Both of these truths, the church and the one anothers, inform the development of leaders in the context of community. This community is the body of Christ and the family of God. Leaders are a part of the body and part of a family. Therefore, a crucial value for our Emerging Leaders Conferences is to integrate into the very DNA of our ELC’s this community dynamic. Community in our ELC’s helps to shape next gen leaders.
